“Expert consensus around the removal of these trees was already reached in earlier decades”
Please see the example letter written below by Briones Lions Club president Megan Matson
To whom it may concern;
I am writing as President of the Briones Lions Club, a long-standing civic institution in the town of Bolinas, in strong support of the critically needed Bolinas Eucalyptus Project. I do so with the agreement and support of our Board.
We support the Bolinas Eucalyptus Project moving ahead with emergency access urgency, and accelerated County support. We are so far past the time prudent action would have been taken to remove the danger of these trees, based on the following:
• First, for all of the reasons enumerated in the data and in the project description readily available at www.bolinaseucalyptusproject.org;
• Second, from personal experience living in and around the subject trees including–
o Blocked passage on both the road out of downtown and the road out for the population center (the Mesa), hindering first responders egress as well, during a high storm event;
o Current blocked passage of the public footpath I and others use to walk to work downtown safely;
o Dangerous passage on our two critical roads during coastal storms/wind events;
o My own awareness that expert consensus around the removal of these trees was already reached in earlier decades;
• Third, the tragic and avoidable event in which one of our young townspeople was grievously and lastingly injured (spinal and head) when one of the trees previously identified as dangerous fell on the car he and his partner were driving in;
• Fourth, the bulk of the population in our coastal community living on a peninsula with single road ingress and egress in emergencies, with just two roads in and out for the Mesa population that are both subject to closure, and both become dead ends for evacuation when treefall occurs from the subject eucalyptus, as happened in our last severe storm event.
Please do everything in your authority to expedite funding, permits and supportive action toward the remedy of this long overdue core community threat in our County.
Sincerely,
Megan Matson
President, Briones Lions Club
